Terms & Conditions
I have detailed Terms of Business which I email to all clients. By typing in your name at the bottom of this form and emailing it back to me, you have agreed to abide by the terms.
In broad outline the terms are as follows:
Purpose
The purpose of these terms and conditions is to provide the basis for a good and fair working relationship between you, my client, and myself as your translator.
Delivery
Once I have seen the work, I will give you a fixed delivery date. This may change if you change your requirements subsequently.
Fees
Fees/rates shall be agreed before I start the work and any estimate based on your description of the work shall not be binding until I have seen the work.
Fees/rates may be changed afterwards if it emerges that you have not provided all relevant information or if you change your requirements.
Payment
Payment shall be made within 21 days of date of invoice. In the case of long commissions (10,000 words or over), I may require payment in instalments.
Cancellation fees shall apply if a commission is cancelled after I have started working on it.
Intended use of translation
The intended use of the translation shall always be agreed and stated. You, the client, shall not use the translation for any other purpose without my agreement.
Confidentiality
The Code of Professional Conduct (clause 4.3) of the Chartered Institute of Linguists requires me as the translator to treat all work entrusted to me with complete confidentiality.
When necessary, I may consult with colleagues about problems of terminology and other linguistic matters, but I shall ensure that there is never any disclosure of confidential material.
Responsibility and Liability
I shall carry out the translation to the best of my ability and in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct of the Chartered Institute of Linguists. I shall endeavour to ensure that the translation is suitable for its agreed purpose and target readership.
Complaints
Any complaint about my work shall be submitted to me within 14 days of receipt of the completed assignment. If the dispute cannot be resolved between us, the matter shall be referred to the Chartered Institute of Linguists for arbitration.
